Before I get started on this post. Please note that all pastors will tell you that the first person to learn the lesson they preach is themselves. I understand my condition but believe that others need to know too. So, to begin this post I ask the question “Which sins don’t matter?”
For some reason, Christians of today have begun to say certain sins do not count, or that due to the blood of Christ already paying for their sin they can do as they please. Sins like speeding, dangerous driving, rage, overeating and many more. We make excuses for these sins or just stop caring that they truly are sins. This is what is wrong with modern Christianity. We often use phrases like “All sin is equal in God’s eyes” when we talk about sin. IF we are to stay true to this statement, then we have to realize that speeding is as bad as stealing, lying is as bad as murder, or whatever combination you want to throw in there. We do these things then wonder why society laughs at us for calling out big topic sins like homosexuality and abortion.
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. (Matthew 7:5 ESV)
We are called to examine ourselves first. This does not call us to not help others clean themselves up. This calls us to make sure we work on ourselves first. As Christians, we need to make sure that we are trying our best not be sinful. We are no longer slaves to the sin for we have a new Master in Christ who has made us free. So why don’t we act like it? If we clean up even what we might call a “small sin,” then we will have removed enough out of our eye to begin helping this world change for the better.
