Conduct Unbecome a Christian

The Uniform Code of Military Justice Article 133 known as Conduct Unbecoming an Officer. This is a court marshalled offense in the branches of the military that make a statement of an expectation of a Commissioned Officer, Cadet, or Midshipman. There is a set standard given to these men and women as they are sworn in, contract signed, and trained to be leaders in the armed forces. When the officer acts in a way that damages their character or disgraces the title, they are charged with this court martial offense. Now Christian, what if you were held to the same standard? I am calling for a trial to be held. I am calling for a majority of Christians to be held accountable. We are charged with Conduct Unbecoming a Christian.

Many times, as Christians, we feel as though we can get away with a lot. There isn’t an instant punishment, no jail time, and many times you might hear the phrase “God already forgave me.” We come to a moment when we become ‘ok’ with our sins and continue like nothing is wrong. As Christians, we are supposed to devote ourselves to a lifetime pursuit of being like Christ, but we seem to not care anymore. We would just rather stick with the easy life then try to be the best we are called to be.

When I was in high school, I participated in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps. My senior year, I was promoted to 1stLt which was the third highest rank a cadet could achieve. I was a cadet officer. While I was an enlisted cadet, I was able to get away with goofing off with my cadets. It was my officer’s job to correct my actions and if they didn’t then I got away with it. When I became an officer, I was held accountable to every action. Other officers get demoted for not acting right outside of the classroom, being ridiculous with other cadets, and failing. We were held to a higher standard.

In our world today, we are held to a higher standard. We are no longer ignorant to sin. We know the Gospel personally. We are supposed to lead others to Christ. This phrase “lead others to Christ” assumes two things: 1) You know how to get to Christ 2) You know others who don’t. In a world where there are many people on their way to eternal separation from God the Almighty, maybe it is time we act like Christians.
