Throughout history, we have been blessed by the words of many people put to song. Horatio Spafford and his hymn It is Well With My Soul. A song written from a place of loss. Spafford lost his young son due to Scarlet fever, then lost his four daughters in a shipwreck. “Saved Alone” being the only message he received from his wife.
I Can Only Imagine by Bart Millard came from a place of turmoil and strife. A place of abuse and hurt. The story of having to learn forgiveness.
Even IF by MercyME a song that came from a place of brokenness that shares that “Even if you don’t, my hope is you alone.” Knowing that if God does not show up in our troubles and trials that it is still God that is our hope.
We find these songs come from our brokenness, because it is when we are broken or weak that we are able to marvel at the strength of God. God has chosen humanity to be in communion with and chose to save us when we failed. It is in these moments when we realize our weakness that we can see God completely glorified.
2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV: And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
It is the moments when we are broken that God is seen as the all-powerful God that God is. Being a broken person and having to minister to other people who come to you broken is one of the hardest things to do. You are stuck in your own head trying to figure out your life, yet others come to you with their life because you are the one that God chose to shepherd that flock.
It is the most difficult thing that I have ever had to do, trying to find a reason why I shouldn’t quit and then this other person walks in with the same attitude. Extremely hard to deal with. However, it is in that moment that God shows you the power scripture boasts.
These moments when we are broken, down trodden, or even giving up is when we are the most vulnerable with God. It is in these moments when God and you can have a heart to heart, because yours is no longer distracted by the pride that we put before it. It is in that moment when you are bare before the Throne of God and are willing to lay it all down. Our worship comes from our brokenness, because in that brokenness is when we realize that our God truly loves us.
We are like children with a parent. When the child is find and dandy, the parent may say they love the child over and over again, but the moment the child is hurt is when the love of the parent is manifested. That mom or dad who run over to their child with the cut up knee from falling off their bike. The first thing they do is scoop up the child and hold them close in their arms. When we are doing great, we forget to look back to God and all the great things he does; yet, when we fall or are broken God scoops us up and cares so much for us.
